When no tree is left to fall

The play portrays four female lumberjacks who have felled the very last tree and, in fulfilling their task, have unwittingly made themselves redundant. In the context of the open air stage in between the left overs of the Harz forest, I searched for local soundscapes that are in danger of disappearing due to the omnipresent forest dieback and the loss of old traditions due to demographic change. In the sound design, I therefore processed various echoes as memories, from original recordings of local yodellers to socialist children’s songs, and wrote four new songs for the performers, ranging from romantic ballads to the pop hit ‘Sexy Anhalt’, which express the characters' various relationships to the lost forest.
